OpenSea Acquires Rally Wallet to Expand Mobile and Token Trading Capabilities
OpenSea has acquired Rally Wallet, a mobile-native crypto wallet startup, in a strategic move to bolster its presence in mobile and token-based trading. The acquisition, announced on July 8, integrates Rally's team into OpenSea's leadership, with co-founder Chris Maddern stepping into the role of chief technology officer.
The Rally team will spearhead the development of a revamped OpenSea Mobile experience, positioning it as a central hub for onchain activity—spanning NFTs, memecoins, DeFi, and digital assets. While specifics remain under wraps, the Rally app will eventually merge into OpenSea's broader ecosystem.
This acquisition underscores OpenSea's ambition to evolve into the "home of all web3," transcending NFTs to embrace fungible tokens, yield opportunities, and mobile-first innovations. "We will unlock the unique possibilities created by combining NFTs and tokens," Maddern remarked, hinting at broader opportunities for collectors, creators, and traders.
Launched in 2021, Rally gained traction for its mobile-first design and community-centric ethos, making it a natural fit for OpenSea's expansion plans.
